Awakenings Program
for Individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias

Saunders House is pleased to offer a dedicated program to address the special needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. A geriatric psychiatrist is available for consultations and to assist with the development of specialized care plans.

With a centralized nursing station and dedicated multi-purpose room, the physical structure of the floor is designed to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of our residents with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Safe and self-contained, our fourth floor offers freedom, dignity, and opportunities for group socialization tailored to residents’ varied levels of functioning. Specially trained recreation staff offer a variety of programming to meet the needs of all residents with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Music and art therapy allow residents who may struggle with verbal communication opportunities for expression.

To ensure safety, residents who are at risk for wandering are protected by a wander protection system. This security system disables exits and alerts staff if a resident attempts to leave Saunders House unattended.

Support groups are another vital element of our Awakenings Program. More information about these support groups is available from our social services department or from the Alzheimer’s Association.
